Meet Saah David and Tamba Gbondo
Saah David
My name is Saah David; and I am 38 years of age. I live in Kpandonin Community, Foya District, Lofa County, Liberia.
After the war, I came back home from Guinea as a simple auto mechanic. While practicing this trade in order to earn a living to sustain my family, one day I started to experience some pains in the feet. I was taken to the hospital by a family member. I was there for two (2) days without any improvement. At last one of my legs was amputated because it was swollen with a big sore and the doctor said it needed to be cut.
Presently, even the remaining leg has serious problem. I can hardly move by myself. My wife abandoned me, and I have three (3) children by her. At the moment, no one even visits me because of my present condition.
Tamba Gbondo
My name is Tamba Gbondo and I am 38 years of age. I was born on N’dama Road, Foya District, Lofa County, Liberia.
I was not born disabled. I was told by my family members that at the age of 3, I started to experience pain in the bones of my legs. My legs became withered and my mother carried me to a herbalist. There I was for three months; yet, there was no improvement. At that time, my Mother divorced my father and abandoned me and up to present, I do not know her whereabouts. Moreover, I even don’t know who my real father is or was.
And today I remain to be single with no one to care for me. My condition is so bad to the extent that I only depend on people in order for me to sustain my life. I am without good sleeping place; and no good wearing and so people always take me for a mad person.
