Meet Mark Fayiah and Saah Tamba

Mark Fayiah

My name is Mark Fayiah and I am 27 years of age. I was born in Kpandikarmadou Village, Foya Statutory District, Lofa County, Liberia.

I have two (2) brothers and two (2) sisters. Our parents died in the civil war. According to my late mother, I was at the age of three (3) when I was attacked by malaria around 2:00PM. When my mother put me down from the bed, I was unable to stand. Both my hands and feet became very weak. I was taken to a nearby village for traditional treatment. According to my mother, they tried very hard and my hands came back to normal but my feet did not recover but remained  the same; and this resulted in my being crippled today. Because of this condition, I have been abandoned by other family members.

Due to this, I go out every day to struggle to get the little I can to eat to survive. I am without good clothing, not good housing. I at times sleep on the ground.

Saah Tamba

My name is Saah Tamba and I’m 15 years of age.mI live in Kpandonin Community, Foya District, Lofa County, Liberia.

I was at the age of thirteen (13) when my father died; and I was left with no one to take care of me. As such, I was compelled to cut palm-nuts. In course of time, one day I fell from a palm tree and most of my bones got broken. From that time, I became disabled. Presently, my mother is also old, blind and cannot do anything to help the family. There is no good housing facility, and at times, I sleep in my wheel chair. I am totally abandoned as a handicap and no way to earn a living.
