Meet Elizabeth Fayiah and Adama James
Elizabeth Fayiah
My name is Elizabeth Fayiah and I am 17 years of age. I was born in Solomba Village, Warm Clan, and Foya District, Liberia.
At the age of ten (10) and before the death of my father, I was told that I was not born a disabled child. My father was drowned through the discouragement of my mother who also died when I was three years of age; and I was left with my grandmother. It was around the hour of 6:00 PM, and I experienced heavy cold through my hands. I was at once taken to the hospital, there my right hand and one of my feet became paralyzed.
My grandmother with whom I’m living too is very old now. She usually goes around begging in order for us to get something to sustain our lives. All other family members have abandoned us.
Adama James
I am Adama James, 39 years of age, living on Kpormbu Road, Foya District, Lofa County, Liberia.
One day when I came from fishing at about four o’clock p.m., I suddenly felt something just dropped on my eyes and both eyes became red. Immediately I was taken to the Boma Hospital here in Foya. At the same time water started running from my eyes, and the entire surrounding became darkened. Unfortunately, there was no eye specialist at the hospital at that time. This continued until I finally became blind.
Presently, I am a mother of four (4) children but my husband abandoned me and our children. I am now living in a deplorable condition with my children.
